Tips for Getting the Most Out of Baby Clothes for a Boy and a Girl!
Sad indeed is the mom who falls in love with a precious little flowered jumper for her baby girl. It won’t be long until that little adorable garb is either stuffed away in storage or donated to another new mom. It seems a baby can get three or four wears out of an outfit before they outgrow it.
No wonder for all the hand-me-downs that even the most prosperous parents clothe their babies in. It simply doesn’t make sense to only buy new clothes at the rate children grow. The same goes for both little boys as well. Look at how adorable little Johnny is in his dad’s favorite baseball team hat. Hopefully Daddy has that hat in every size larger.
Here are a few tips for getting the most time and wear out of your little bundle’s wardrobe:
1. Choose Stretchy Fabrics
Many children’s clothes come with elastic waistbands but nowadays, children’s clothing designers are using a lot of materials that have a spandex lycra or elastic mix. This fabric choice is great for two reasons. First, children can wear them quite longer as they grow. Second, a material that has a lycra mix will not fade colour or bleed into other laundry when washed.
2. Pre Shrunk Cotton Only
You would think that many clothing manufacturers would only use pre-shrunk cotton out of respect for a parent’s needs. But, unfortunately this is not the case. If an article of clothing is made of pre-shrunk cotton, it will only say so on the tag that includes the washing instructions. Double check these tags and opt to never buy anything that just says “100% cotton” on its label. One wash and you’ll have to throw it away afterward.
3. Don’t Be Too Good For Second-Hand Garbs
It is just foolish to throw money away on nothing but brand new baby clothes. Even the wealthiest of moms will grow tired of watching the money go out the window on baby clothes that may fit as long as 4 months or so. Second-hand baby clothes are a way of life for every smart mom and dad. You will be shocked at the great and like-new baby clothes you can find at garage sales and thrift stores. The clothing has probably only been worn 3 or 4 times.
